![]() ![]() ![]() There are things that SLRs just do better, and if you want one, perhaps the happy medium, while still shooting medium format roll film, is to get a Bronica ETRSi, they're not too expensive, and they have all the benefits of a 35mm SLR, they're reliable enough, and will give you that through the lens perspective, on a small(er) camera you can carry with you, while still retaining some of the quality of medium format.Įither that or perhaps start looking at a 6圆 Mamiya TLR.ĭon't get me wrong, I now have a 35mm Konica FS-1, and its enough, it even has some bells and whistles like the automatic winder, and automatic flash system, and electronic shutter release button, and RF release compatibility. The focusing screen sucks, they're not really that fast, the shutter speed in most mid century rangefinders will be around 1/500 at best (of course the 6 and 7 fix that issues). Don't get me wrong, I can use one, and have a giant, glorified viewback/rangefinder that shoots 6x9s in the form of a press camera that is the Mamiya Universal Press, but really it's a kludge, and with a 50mm on the front of it I mostly leave it for shooting landscapes. I've always found rangefinders to be a bit of a kludge together of a bunch of half solutions (that came before the SLR and in between view backs) to get the job done, and that includes the focusing system also, especially when you begin to look for longer lenses. ![]()
